Summary

Two people. One journey…

Millie loves her city life, her city friends and writing her true(ish) confessions column – but she’s starting to wonder if the grass really is greener on the other side, or if her heart really belongs back in Northumberland, with her mum who is struggling after the death of Millie’s dad.

Since leaving home. Joe’s lived believing that looking back means you’ve failed, and life is about taking chances and seeing the world.

So when the two meet up surely it can never work, their lives are moving in opposite directions. On different tracks…

What I Liked

Set in London and its whereabouts, the story begins with Millie bumping into Joe at the train station. There is an instant connection that pulls them towards each other. Millie writes about their meeting in her confessions column which garners a lot of praise, thereby, leaving her no choice but to continue their story every week.

She hopes to meet Joe again but not for her column. And when they do bump into each other again, she can’t believe her luck. Joe, too, can’t seem to stop wanting to meet her. And thus, begins their relationship.

The story takes us further into their backgrounds and current lives. They confess their feelings for each other but find that they want different things. Millie wants to return home to her mum to take care of her whereas Joe wants to stay in London for his career.

What I loved about the story was that it gave equal importance to both the characters’ circumstances and the fact that the author ended the story with hope. I especially loved the usage of the line – ‘Meet me on Platform 3’ towards the end, it was so romantic and exciting.

Overall, I enjoyed reading this book thoroughly.

What I Did Not Like

Although I liked the ending, the story seemed like something that I had seen too many times in the movies. Also, there were places where the details could have been cut back.
