Hello, dear readers. I hope you are getting along with your TBR and enjoying it. As you can see, I am trying to be consistent with my posts and reviews, and steadily making progress. Yaaay!

Today’s post is a review of the third book of the Fallen series by Gabrielle Sands called When She Falls. You must know by now how addicted I am to this series! This genre of the series is dark mafia romance and if you are into that genre then you mustn’t miss reading these books, they are simply amazing!

Without getting ahead of myself, let me share the summary of this book with you.

Gentlemen don’t look at engaged women the way Ras Sorrentino looks at me.

Ras Sorrentino is the underboss of the most powerful clan in the Camorra. He’s also chaos and danger poured into a sleek Italian suit.

The first time I met him, I thought he was there to kill me. The second time, I wanted to kill him.

The third was in Ibiza, where I glared at him across the church as my sister married his boss.

It’s not his sharp tongue or his taunting smirks that I hate the most. It’s his gaze.

How it narrows when I flinch. How it hardens when he notices the bruises on my face. How he stares at my engagement ring like he wants to melt it off my finger.

I know it’s a bad idea to let him push my buttons. After all, the fate of my family rests on my upcoming marriage and my fiancé is only interested in me because of my pristine reputation.

A reputation Ras seems to have no qualms with stomping all over.

It’s a good thing him and I live on the opposite sides of the world.

Until he tells me, he’s coming back to New York with me.

And he’s staying.

Note: This is a dark romance with mature themes and profanities.

I love how the author keeps the reader interested in all the characters so much that they enjoy the next love story better. When She Falls is the love story of Vale’s sister, Gemma, and Damiano’s right-hand man, Ras.

Here, the dynamics are different only because of Gemma’s characterisation. She is this obedient girl who has always tried to keep everyone happy. Unlike her sister Vale or Cleo (the youngest), Gemma isn’t fierce or brave and she tries to sacrifice her wants and desires for the sake of peace within the family. But when Ras enters her life, everything turns around 360 degrees.

Ras, the haughty companion of Damiano, sees Gemma as fierce but only around him. He begins to wonder why she doesn’t object to her parents’ outlandish remarks and soon finds himself entangled in feelings and thoughts that he shouldn’t be having about her. Because, after all, she is engaged.

Wow! The complexities in the book made it stand out from the others. I am glad the author made Gemma’s character as such because it gives a different take on perspective. Not everyone is brave, strong or impulsive. Gemma’s character is genuine, especially for someone who has had to bear unpleasantness from their father.

A well-written book with the plot moving swiftly and the heat rising equally fast. As with the others, this book can be read as a standalone.

Highly recommended if you are into dark romance. You can read my reviews of the previous books in this series here.

I will be back soon with the review of the last book of the Fallen series.

  1. Liked this article. A perfect book review. Will certainly try to buy the book. But day by day, price of books is getting costlier. So, I had to somewhat stay away from reading this literary gems. But I am glad you wrote it and gave a sneak peek into the book.
